Ryan Burky

I am a Canadian-qualified barrister and solicitor and hold a Juris Doctor from Robson Hall Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. I am currently working with Umbrella Family Law as a paralegal while completing my cross-qualifications to practise in Australia. I have worked in the legal industry for more than 15 years across a range of areas of law.

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, I began my career in civil and estate litigation before moving exclusively into family law. During my time practising in Canada, I represented clients in a range of complex matters before the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench and the Court of Appeal. This experience gave me a strong foundation in litigation, advocacy and navigating complex legal issues, which continues to inform my approach to family law today.

My experience has shaped a practical and considered approach to family law. I understand that separation can be an incredibly difficult and uncertain time, and I take pride in helping clients navigate the process with clear guidance and a focus on finding solutions that reflect their individual circumstances.

I believe the best outcomes are often achieved through mutual agreement, particularly when parenting arrangements are involved. Wherever possible, I encourage a practical and resolution-focused approach that helps families move forward while minimising unnecessary conflict. At the same time, I understand that not every matter can be resolved by agreement, and I work closely with our lawyers and clients to identify a strategy and solution tailored to their specific needs.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me at the footy, out for a run or fishing down in Gippsland.
